This is all about my garden and how I make it grow.

This is what I have done in my garden and my yard to try to make it grow and be as beautiful as it can be.

Basil and Cilantro

Several months ago My mother-in-law gave me some herb seeds earlier this year. She said that since I have such good luck growing things that perhaps I could try and grow some herbs. I had never grown herbs before but thought hey, I'll give it a try. I planted basil, cilantro, and thyme. I did not think that they would do well but I'm the type of person I'll try anything as long as it isn't illegal or immoral. Well long story short they sprouted and I had to repot them several days ago. I planted six cilantro and only one sprouted but what a plant I have now. I planted nine basil and all of them sprouted. The only problem I have now is figuring out how to dry them so that I can use them later. I planted Oregano and Rosemary several days ago and the oregano has already sprouted. I just wonder if I can keep it alive and later use it for cooking.

Wonder Egg plant

I bought the seeds for a wonder egg plant last year at Dollar General and planted them. What I got in return was a plant that I think is just at pretty as can be. I started more plants this year and ended up with 36 plants total. I have decided to plant the plants along my driveway. I know that the plants only live the one year but I figure I can plant them and if I like the look of it I will plant a perennial next year. In the mean time I will enjoy the look of the wonder eggs bordering my yard.

My First Flower

I want to begin this post by giving you a little history about what started my love of plants and gardening. It really started Christmas 2006. It was the first Christmas with my husband. My mother-in-law gave me an amaryllis bulb kit. She assured me that it was easy to grow and because it was a bulb it would bloom year after year. Well I planted it in the pot it came with and watered it, and true enough it bloomed. It was one of the largest and most beautiful flowers I had ever seen and the fact that I had gotten it to bloom, was the ultimate reward for me. The following spring I planted it in the yard and was rewarded with another bloom. I was ecstatic this beautiful flower had bloomed again. I was sure that I wanted more of this beautiful flower but I was unaware bulbs have seeds that I could harvest plant and have more of. I always thought that the only way to have more bulbs was to let it divide over time, man was I wrong. That first year I did not collect the seeds from the seed pods, but keep in mind I knew next to nothing about plants. My second Christmas with my husband I was gifted with another amaryllis kit from my mother-in-law (it was becoming a tradition of sorts) and I did the same thing I did with the amaryllis I had gotten, and was rewarded with another bloom. I planted it in the yard the coming spring next to the first amaryllis bulb. Imagine my surprise when they both bloomed at the same time.

A gift for Growing Plants

I have been told by many people that I have a knack for growing things. Some people, I will agree do seem to have a gift for growing things. I was told that my great grandmother could put a stick in the ground and get it to grow simply by looking at it. Maybe I got it from her, maybe I developed it on my own I don't know. The one thing I do know is I love to watch a plant grow. If I start something from a seed I sometimes feel like the little seedlings are my babies. I really do enjoy watching plants. My husband loves vegetables which is a good thing as far as I am concerned. I can plant any vegetable and he will eat it and seeing the smile on his face is a joy I can not really describe.
